37th Anniversary of Peace Tree Planting in Zurich

32 years ago, in June of 1976 peace advocate and philosopher Sri Chinmoy (1931-2007) planted this tree in the Rietberg Museum park in Zurich. It is a monument for peace and harmony, frequently visited by members of the Sri Chinmoy Centre as well as hundreds of visitors who come here every year. The tree is a  Morinda Spruce or West Himalayan Spruce (Picea smithiana) which is a spruce native to the western Himalaya and adjacent mountains, from northeast Afghanistan east to central Nepal. It normally grows at altitudes of 2,400-3,600 m in forests together with Deodar Cedar, Blue Pine and Pindrow Fir.
