Forty years ago, on April 24, 1974, peace activist Sri Chinmoy delivered a lecture at UNM (University of New Mexico), Main Campus/Zimmermann Library, Albuquerque. In honor of Sri Chinmoy’s Golden Jubilee Celebration, University Libraries presents a special forum. His 1974 talk will be re-read in his honor and UNM faculty and students will have a chance to reflect and discuss his philosophy. This event is free and open to all. During his lifetime, Sri Chinmoy was internationally recognized for initiatives that have united people to work for a more fulfilling world. He founded the Peace Run in 1987 as the world’s largest global relay run (www.peacerun.org) that literally takes steps for world peace. He received many honors in New Mexico including:
– On May 25, 2000 then Gov. Gary Johnson proclaimed New Mexico a Sri Chinmoy Peace State
– May 24, 2006 was proclaimed by then Gov. Bill Richardson “World Harmony Run Day”
– Gov. Susanna Martinez has offered “heartfelt congratulations” for Sri Chinmoy’s Golden Jubilee. Sri Chinmoy has dedicated his life to advancing the ideals of world peace and oneness.
