For this slideshow I chose a selection of short poems on peace by Sri Chinmoy combined with pictures from the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER, which is an outdoor work of art conceived by Yoko Ono in memory of John Lennon. It is situated on Viðey Island in Reykjavík, Iceland. The Laser beams will be lit again from October 9th to December 8th, starting at around 8 pm local time. Edited by Kedar Misani.
And here is another swimming event of the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team. On August 10, 2014, 40 solo swimmers and 21 teams from all over the world started early in the morning in Rapperswil with the goal to reach Zurich within 12 hours by swimming nonstop on the Lake Zurich. In the beginning the sky was cloudy, but around noon the sun came to the fore and the air temperature climbed up to 27°C. Around Meilen the lake was choppy, the water temperature was ca. 21- 22° C. First to reach Zurich was Marco Allegretti from Italy in 6 h 19 m 41s. He beat the record of Jürg Schmid (CH) in the cate- gory “Men without wetsuit” from 2008. Fastest in the women’s category was Rachael Lee from Ireland with 7h 02m 15s. In the category “Relays with wetsuit” the team “Young, fast and furious” from Switzerland placed first in 6h 59m 11s. “Young and fast” the three girls are indeed, being only 12, 13 and 14 years of age!
Members of the International Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team (SCMT) have made 46 English Channel solo crossings by September 2014 – the most by any athletic organisation. To honour their teacher Sri Chinmoy’s 50 years of peace service to the world, 4 female members chose another English Channel self-transcendence adventure on September 17, 2014. At 12:42 p.m. they embarked on their 16 hour 34 min. long journey to France. With lots of inner and outer support again from around the world, Harita from New Zealand, Abhejali (several Zurich lakes, EC relay 2009, EC solo 2010, MIMS 2012, Gibraltar Straits 2013, ), Jayalata and Ritadyumna (EC relay 2009, breaststroker) from Czech Republic and their two enthusiastic and experienced helpers (Bahula from New York and Haribala from Zlin) were lucky to have the weather gods on their side again and enjoy a great time – before, after and even at times during the swim. After completing the 10,000 Flower Flames poem series, Sri Chinmoy selected 207 poems. In the introduction he wrote: “I have selected 207 poems out of 10,000 from my series, Ten Thousand Flower Flames, which was originally published in 100 volumes. Here the poet in me is soulfully satisfied, the reader in me is smilingly satisfied and the critic in me is surprisingly satisfied.” These are the first 20 poems; the whole collection is online here:
