Earth Day – Quote by Sri Chinmoy

Question: Why is humanity polluting and destroying Mother Nature?

Sri Chinmoy: Mother Nature is being polluted and destroyed by the unaspiring realities of life. It is very sad. Mother Nature has become so helpless, and the people who are trying to preserve Mother Nature are in no way helping. They are only talking, talking, talking! Governments also are only talking. They come forward and say, “Yes, we want to preserve the trees and fields,” but their actions produce the opposite effect.

Because we human beings see enemies all around us, because we are afraid someone will come and attack us, we use all our money and energy to make ourselves powerful. To make ourselves powerful enough to fight our enemies, we cut Mother Nature into pieces and take her resources. We give importance only to scientific and chemical advancement, which does not allow Mother Nature to remain beautiful or powerful. Chemical advancement and Mother Nature’s progress cannot go together. As long as there is fear on earth, Mother Nature will never be able to fulfil her divinity. It is only when we no longer see others as enemies that we shall be able to keep Mother Nature intact.

Sri Chinmoy on Mother Earth

EarthQuestion: How do you feel about all the environmental concerns that seem to be surfacing now?

Sri Chinmoy: The very nature of earth is to cry, cry for purification. First it starts with a cry for simplicity, because earth has been polluted by complexity. Previously, hundreds and thousands of years ago, earth was very simple. Now human beings have corrupted the earth. On the one hand, machinery and technology have helped the earth considerably, but on the other hand, they have considerably taken away the pristine beauty, purity and divinity of Mother Earth. As soon as I see the soul of the earth, I see the soul is crying and crying because of the loss of its inner divinity, which is far, far greater than the gain in outer achievements. Earth has lost many, many divine qualities which it had from the beginning of creation. Again, earth itself is to be blamed to some extent. Earth also was tempted in the beginning to seek the new, the development of science, the development of the mental faculties, of the mind’s capacities. Then earth saw, to its extreme sorrow, that although these developments definitely helped a little, many extremely, extremely good qualities of earth were being lost by allowing the outer achievements to dominate the inner life.

The very nature of Mother Earth is to cry. One kind of cry is aspiring to become inseparably one with God the Creator. But at the same time earth has another cry to regain the invaluable things that it has lost over the centuries.

Sri Chinmoy Centre helps Queens Hospital

A local community group – who are followers of Sri Chinmoy are serving these health workers by bringing them food every day. The group has organized themselves so that while one sub-group is fund-raising, a second sub-group is preparing the food to bring to the hospital. The food is being prepared at the well-known vegetarian restaurant, Annam Brahma on 164th St. and at the Vegetarian Diner: Smile of the Beyond at Parsons Blvd. Sri Chinmoy’s teachings on helping others in time of need, recognizing our oneness with humanity, has inspired his followers to take up this initiative. Going beyond religion and color, the Sri Chinmoy Center do their utmost to help people of impacted during natural and social disasters. (From a local Queens newspaper)

Sri Chinmoy talks on Happiness

In a concert in Ludwigshafen, Germany, on April 3, 1989, Sri Chinmoy gave a short talk on happiness. Filmed by Kedar MIsani The edited text of this talk can be found with this link Sri Chinmoy, My heart’s peace-offering, Agni Press, 1994:

Happiness, happiness, happiness!

My happiness abides in my soul’s promise to God. My happiness dwells in my heart’s hope for a higher life. My happiness resides in my life’s willingness to fulfil God at every moment.

I am happy when early in the morning I place my ignorance-head at God’s Forgiveness-Feet. I am happy when early in the morning my inspiration-eye catches a glimpse of God’s Compassion-Eye. I am happy when early in the morning my aspiration-heart is blessed by my Lord’s Satisfaction-Heart.

To be happy I must not allow insincerity to stand at my mind’s door. To be happy I must not allow insecurity to stand at my heart’s door. To be happy I must not allow impurity to stand at my life’s door.

Happiness, happiness, happiness!

To be happy, every day during my meditation I send my body to enthusiasm-kindergarten, I send my vital to dynamism-elementary school, I send my mind to obedience-high school, I send my heart to surrender-college and I send my life to gratitude-university. I send the members of my earthly existence to study these divine subjects in order to make myself a perfect instrument of my Lord Supreme, for only as a perfect instrument of my Lord Supreme can I truly be happy.

To be happy, I beg and beg my Lord Supreme to grant me a will-power-sword and to make it sharper than the sharpest. With this sharper than the sharpest will-power-sword, I shall challenge the ignorance-night that has enveloped my being for thousands of years and liberate myself.

To be happy, I pray and pray soulfully to my Lord Supreme to grant me the capacity to ring the bell of His universal Peace. I also beg my Lord Supreme not to allow ignorance-titan to touch my Eternity’s dream-boat, which I have been sailing from time immemorial towards the Golden Shore of the Beyond.

My soulful God-invocation is the beginning of my happiness-peace. My sleepless self-dedication is the continuation of my happiness-journey. My unconditional God-manifestation in God’s own Way is the culmination of my happiness-perfection.
